Art-in-Residence
Art-in-Residence
Sound occupies a central place in our spectrum of interests. One of the fundamental goals of the artist residency program in Sokołowsko is to support new and creative curatorial practices related to sound and music, and to explore the intersection of art and technology.
As an artist residency center, we want to support the creativity of artists from different places and working in various fields, with a particular emphasis on sound art, contemporary experimental music, and interdisciplinary forms. Our residents will be able to take advantage of the unique location and infrastructure we offer, as well as a network of contacts conducive to achieving their goals.
A-i-R Sokołowsko is a continuation and expansion of the A-i-R Sanatorium Dźwięku artist residency program, established in 2016.
Residency conditions
The duration of the residency in Sokołowsko can be determined individually, and the residency can last from 1 to 3 months. Artists can participate in the program individually or in groups.
During their stay in Sokołowsko, residents live in Villa Rosa, which has 8 bedrooms for 2, 3, or 4 people. Each room has a private bathroom. Shared spaces include the kitchen and dining room located on the ground floor. Residents also have access to a sunny terrace overlooking the forest.
During the residency, artists are free to work on any project they choose. We value a research-based approach and experimentation in the creative process. We are happy to provide sufficient time and space for trial and error and the development of new ideas. We are also open to residencies with a curator nominated by the resident.
Residents are selected through an application process, and the decision is made by a jury composed of experts from various fields. We invite established artists and emerging artists with high potential for development to participate in the artist residency program in Sokołowsko.
Creative workspaces
A-i-R Sokołowsko offers a variety of spaces for creative work. Most of the workspaces are located in the restored part of Dr. Brehmer’s Sanatorium, but spaces under reconstruction are also available to residents.
On the ground floor of the Sanatorium, there is a 140 m² exhibition hall that can be used in many ways. Climbing the winding stairs in the tower, we pass studios of various sizes, offering views in different directions. The top floor of the tower is an observation deck from which you can admire the surrounding mountains and forest. In addition, the spacious basements also provide space for various activities.
In addition, residents have access to the Zdrowie Cinema Theater: a 19th-century building renovated in 2009. It currently serves as an arthouse cinema and a space for various artistic activities.
The building consists of a cinema hall with a stage, orchestra pit, balcony, and auditorium for 180 people. It also has technical and multimedia equipment. The cinema hall has exceptional acoustics, which makes it suitable for many artistic activities, such as film screenings, theater performances, audio recordings, dance rehearsals, and audio-visual performances.
