About In Situ Foundation
Founded in 2004 by Zygmunt Rytka and Bożenna Biskupska, since 2012 it has been operating in Sokołowsko under the leadership of Zuzanna Fogtt. The aim of the foundation is to create space for international artistic projects, exchange of ideas, support creativity and protect cultural heritage. In Situ’s activities include exhibitions, concerts, workshops, artistic residencies, social and ecological projects, and cyclical festivals: Konteksty Festival of Ephemeral Art, Hommage à Kieślowski, Sanatorium Dźwięku. In Situ also works for the reconstruction of the historic Dr. Brehmer Sanatorium, which is becoming the International Laboratory of Culture and the foundation’s final seat. Sokołowsko has been our “Centre of Europe” since 2010.

Founders of the foundation
Bożenna Biskupska, born in 1952 in Warsaw, is an artist involved in painting and sculpture. She studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where she graduated with distinction in 1976. She won first prize at the 4th International Biennial of Miniature Textiles in 1982, and in 1986 the Stanisław Wyspiański Award. She represented Poland at the Venice Biennale of Art (1984) and the Biennale of Small Bronze Sculptures in Padua (1986). The key theme of her work is “Jednolegi”, a series of works developed since 1987. Her works are dominated by monochromatic and an analysis of the process of the passage of time. Zygmunt Rytka is an artist born in 1947 in Warsaw, a member of ZPAF since 1979, known for his intermedia neo-avant-garde activities, using photography and installations. In the 70s, he created experimental films, and in the 80s, videos. Associated with the independent Łódź environment, he worked at the Contemporary Gallery in Warsaw and documented Polish artistic life. Well-known series include “Przedziały czasowe” and “Bluff”, concerning image manipulation. His work includes installations and research into the media possibilities of art, inspired by Władysław Strzemiński, among others. His works are in the National Museum in Wrocław, the Museum of Art in Łódź, the Museum of the History of Photography in Kraków and the Studio Gallery in Warsaw.
