Cinema

The Zdrowie Cinema Theathe is more than just a place to watch films. It is an arthouse cinema, a space for the exchange of cinematic ideas, and a venue for workshops, lectures and discussions. In its day-to-day operations, it offers a taste of the festival atmosphere, when the frequency of screenings and the bustle in the town centre increase significantly.

Café

The café has a space inside the cinema and a covered garden. The menu includes coffee and tea, cakes, soft drinks, and regional beers and wines.

The café also sells books from local and major publishers: works by Polish and international authors are available, including autographed copies of works by Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk.

The café’s display cabinets are filled with items featuring designs linked to the Foundation’s activities, as well as local porcelain from the Wałbrzych-based Kristoff brand.

A brief history of the cinema

Originally built as part of Dr Brehmer’s sanatorium complex, the Zdrowie Cinema is a venue with a unique history and tradition.

Thanks to the efforts of the In Situ Foundation, the building has been renovated whilst retaining its original architecture. The cinema has been fitted with a projector, screen and sound system. The Kinoteatr is accessible to people with disabilities. The cinema auditorium, equipped with an orchestra pit, can seat 200 people.

Since 2010, the Hommage à Kieślowski film festival has been held every September at the Zdrowie Cinema Theatre. The festival is named after Krzysztof Kieślowski, who lived in Sokołowsko between 1951 and 1960.

Screenings and events

The In Situ Foundation offers the cinema auditorium and other spaces at the Zdrowie Cinema Theatre for hire for institutional and private initiatives. This offer also extends to donors who support the restoration of the sanatorium buildings.

Everyone who makes use of the Kinoteatr Zdrowie’s facilities in this way supports the foundation’s activities in pursuit of its main objective: the Sokołowsko reconstruction project.
