The project “Comprehensive modernisation of the Zdrowie Cinema-Theatre in Sokołowsko” involves works to be carried out between March and the end of December and concerns the thorough renovation of a historic cultural venue in the Wałbrzych district – the Zdrowie Cinema-Theatre, named after Krzysztof Kieślowski.

The aim of the project is to complete the long-standing modernisation works and to rectify the damage caused by the unforeseen event of the building being flooded in September 2024. The unexpected flooding destroyed the electrical installation work previously carried out on the cinema’s main stage, damaged sections of the stage walls and the wooden stage structure covering an area of 92 m².

In addition, renovation and repair work was carried out to address the effects of the flooding and restore the building to full functionality.

Type of work carried out:

Dehumidification of the interior walls near the cinema screen following the flood (84 m²)
As a result of the flooding, the walls and foundations became damp. Modern dehumidification technologies were used and the permanent effects of the damp were removed. The scope of work also included chipping away sections of damaged plaster and repainting the stage walls (74 m²).

Renovation of the stage (92 m²)
The cinema theatre stage, as a key element of the building, was damaged by damp and silt lying beneath its surface. The work carried out included:
– dismantling and replacing damaged structural elements, including the floor and the stage substructure,
– renovation of the stage surface, its reinforcement, painting and the application of damp-resistant materials.

Installation of a modern ventilation plant, including a ductwork system, in the building (air exchange with heat recovery)
The building did not previously have a ventilation system, so the installation of the ventilation plant was a key part of the renovation work. A ventilation unit with heat recovery, rated at 6,000 m³/h, was purchased and installed, comprising supply and extract fans, a filter section, a heat recovery exchanger and a noise attenuation section. The installation of the system ensured proper air quality, thermal comfort and user safety.

Work on plaster and the façade
Due to damage caused by damp, the following work was also carried out:
– removal of external cement-lime plaster from walls, columns and pilasters (area exceeding 5 m²),
– mechanical cleaning of the substrate and preparation for insulation,
– thermal modernisation, priming with emulsion and application of new plaster.

The completion of the project has enabled the resumption of cultural activities at the Zdrowie Cinema-Theatre, the organisation of artistic and educational events, and has strengthened the offering aimed at the local and wider regional community, restoring the building to its full function as an important cultural centre in the region.
